Millions to refurbish the national mall?
How is this going to stimulate the economy? It sounds like payoffs for Democrat supporters to me.
Change? Sounds like the same old crap to me.
A talk radio host is being chastised for saying he wants the president to fail. Critics say we should all want the president to succeed.
No, we should all want the president to do the RIGHT THING.
I do not think the president is doing the right thing with this "stimulis package".
Therefore, I want the president to fail, too.

And if the National Mall is refurbished, how many does that employ? How many landscape architects? (well, maybe just one)
How many landscapers? Sod suppliers? Front-end loader drivers? Plumbers? Dozens, if not hundreds would get some sort of employment. And, as a bonus, the National Mall area will stop looking like shit (been there recently? I have...it's embarrassing).
And condoms....how much does this country spend on unwed teenage mothers on welfare who got pregnant because they received no sex ed, and have no access to condoms (not to mention health care for indigent cases of STD's)?
Do the math Doc....millions spent on condoms saves BILLIONS in entitlement payments.
I think that's change we can all believe in. And that's doing the right thing AND succeeding.
The last stimulus package was bad, too. If you recall on JS I voiced my opposition to it. How is refurbishing the national mall going to help anyone OUTSIDE of DC? The country needs an economic jump start NOW, not down the road. Condoms to teens won't do anything NOW. This is just more of Democrat social spending. It's not the right thing and it won't be successful.
Well, let's see how that helps people outside DC. I'm guessing all those workers will have to pay income taxes, which go to the Feds. Are there vendors in the National Mall? Sales tax, revenue, and more salaries that, yes, get income tax paid on them. And, more money for those people to spend ... in the US economy.
Nothing significant is going to happen NOW, if by now you mean in the next week or month. It didn't take that short a time span to get into this mess, and it will take longer than that to get out of it. Longer term projects are necessary.
By the way, Medicaid paid for my birth control pills. If it didn't, there might be $thousands of public assistance coming my way, rather than a hundred bucks or so.
Why not just cut taxes, or at least leave the current tax cuts in place? The last eight years proved that cutting taxes actually INCREASE tax revenues.
Doc, scrap this "abstinence only" sex ed BS (which doesn't work) and provide condoms (which are cheap) and in 9 months you are paid back on that investment.
Think about that...a 9 month ROI simply be preventing children from being born out of wedlock that are immediately on welfare.
What's the downside? Because it's *gasp* social spending?
And as far as the National Mall, a job is a job. It makes it less of a job because the person getting the job is working inside the Washington Beltway? What about the fact that the average DC resident lives below the poverty line? Aren't they in need of employment as much as someone in Detroit?
A deteriorated National Mall means fewer visitors who are spending less money on businesses in and near the Mall. It may also mean fewer visitors to the city in general, which affects the entire city. I was there last June, and having been there many times, the fact that it's so rundown can and will have a long-term affect.
The veterans visiting the war memorials alone deserve to have a better sight then the stagnant water in the reflecting pool (due to broken pumps).
